Milwaukee’s 15mm Throw Dual Action Random Orbital Polisher

Milwaukee Tool has introduced a new product to its lineup – a 15mm throw dual action random orbital polisher. The battery-powered unit boasts a variable speed trigger, ergonomic design, and impressive power. In this article, we will go through the features of this polisher, looking at comfort, battery run time, and power output to see how it compares to its corded counterparts.

Comfort and Ergonomics

The first thing to consider when using a polisher is its comfort and ergonomics, especially when using it for an extended period. With its maximum speed of 5100 RPM, one might expect that this Milwaukee polisher would have a significant amount of vibration throughout use. Surprisingly, this is not the case.

The battery is positioned sideways on the unit, allowing for a more ergonomic grip. The variable speed trigger and dial combination enables you to control the unit better and reach tight spaces comfortably. The two-finger trigger is easy to use, and the lock-on button allows for hands-free operation during more extensive polishing jobs.

Battery Run Time

One of the main concerns with a battery-operated polisher is the run time. Nobody wants to lug around a heavy 12-amp hour battery during their polishing work. However, with Milwaukee’s 6-amp hour XC battery, you can expect impressive run times and performance without sacrificing too much in terms of additional weight.

During tests, the battery lasted through a full pickup truck polishing job and still had one bar of battery life remaining. This means you could potentially polish two cars using just one 6-amp hour battery.

Power Output and Performance

The power output and orbital capabilities of this Milwaukee polisher are impressive compared to other battery-operated models on the market. Users can expect powerful performance without bogging down even when applying pressure during polishing tasks. The combination of the pad and cutting agent contributes to better results, without relying solely on pressure.

Ease of Use and Additional Features

The polisher is relatively quiet compared to its competitors, which means you can work without hearing protection and still listen to your favorite tunes. The hook and loop system is incredibly strong, making it easy to switch between different pads during your polishing job.

The rubber-coated grip areas ensure a comfortable and secure hold, while the 5.2lb weight without battery is not too heavy for extended periods of use. With the battery attached, the unit balances nicely just ahead of the trigger area, reducing fatigue during prolonged use.

The overall length of the polisher is 19.5 inches, which is slightly longer than some competitors. This extended length may make it harder to maneuver in tight areas, but it can also help reach spots on larger vehicles without having to use a ladder.

The 5-inch backing pad works well with various pad types, ensuring that you can achieve the desired results no matter the job.

Conclusion

Milwaukee’s 15mm throw dual action random orbital polisher is a powerful, comfortable, and efficient tool that rivals its corded counterparts. The ergonomic and comfortable design combined with the impressive battery life and power output make this unit an excellent choice for anyone who values cordless tools.

While there may be some concern about the additional weight compared to corded models, the convenience of not having to deal with cords during your polishing job may outweigh this drawback. Ultimately, the decision to go cordless with this polisher will come down to personal preference.

  1. BEST CAR DETAIL POLISHER ON THE MARKET. MILWAUKEE ALWAYS MAKES THE BEST TOOLS IN QUALITY AND ENDURANCE AND THE LITHIUM BATTERS ARE THE BEST IN POWER AND LONGEVITY AS WELL.

  2. Can you burn the clear coat with this tool?

  3. Does it have a problem with The rotary part when you get close to curves and edges like the rupes?

  4. I would use it to buff woodworking projects into a mirror finish not just fit buffing cars

  5. I have a meguiars mt300 and it's very heavy and the cord always gets in the way, thinking of switching to this one also that one is much quieter.

  6. Could I use this for buffing a new paint job?

  7. Looking for a Milwaukee m18 tool that I can use it for sanding down my truck and also wax/polish my everyday vehicle

  11. Waiting for Black Friday to see if it goes on sale!

  12. Great review! Right now, I have/use the DeWalt cordless, but I'm really looking at both this 15mm and the 21mm version.

  13. I've been in the process of testing this one and the 21mm. (I've tested about 10 of the other cordless ones on the market last year).. It's one of the heaviest on the market, but it wears the weight well. It isn't the smoothest, but it isn't unbearable.

Never once did I think "this needs more power". The battery charge times are great. Run times are great.

The only two things I wasn't happy with: the part of the polisher that the battery attaches to doesn't stay tight. It seems like it would be a weak point, especially if dropped. Second: the gear noise is awful. Sounds like they cheaped out with the machining.

  14. I have the non-rob version of this and really like it. I do like the way Milwaukee turned the battery sideways on the ROB version because I tend to bump the battery on the car once in a while. I can do a large wagon with a 5 amp battery. It is very quiet but I still wear hearing protection because the I am concerned about the high pitched brushless whine it gives out.

  15. Does anyone know if it's any better than the DeWALT? This one is slightly lighter which is a bonus for me but not sure about battery life and performance.

  16. Milwaukee had 2 years to make this better than the Dewalt. Dewalt's DA came out 2 years ago. It's also about $30 cheaper than the DeWalt.

  17. How is this compared to dewalt? Which one easier to stall..?

  18. Is the backing plate interchangeable?

  19. Is it a polisher you recommend for Paint Correction? How is it compared to Flex cordless?

  20. I've been waiting to see a comparison video against the Dewalt

  24. Looks awesomeee waiting for the 21 mm size combo pack but sadly that one haven’t released yett

  25. Seems like the rpms are too high you can easily burn through the paint if you're not paying attention

  26. How much and when will it be released?

  27. Great video, thanks!!! How does this compare to the DeWalt da polisher?

  28. Great video!! Would you mind sharing what type of pad and polish you used? Thanks.
