Discover the New Metabo HPT Black Tools
Hey guys, Brian with workshop addict.com here, and we’re excited to talk about some new black Metabo HPT tools. Are they really new? That’s what we’re going to go over in this article. We have a lot of tools here, and if you have these tools in your trailer or toolbox, there can be some confusion with the Metabo HPT line because they have the MultiVolt and the 18-volt line. Today, we’re focusing on the new black tools that are out, which share some of the other model numbers like their green counterparts.
The new black tools are offered at a very fair price. In fact, if you look around, you can find these tools with a 1.5 amp-hour battery and a 2 amp charger for just $99. We’re talking about tools like impact drivers and drills. Check out the specs and descriptions for more information.
Why Black?
So, what’s the big deal with these tools being black? Well, from our perspective, it’s a huge thing. When you’re working with a mix of Metabo HPT tools and MultiVolt batteries, it can be easy to grab the wrong battery for a tool, or vice versa. With the black tools, we can easily identify them as being 18-volt, making our work faster and more efficient. Black, in this case, means lightweight and powerful, perfect for 99.9% of jobs.
Impact Drivers
We tested the new black impact drivers, comparing them with other Metabo HPT tools such as the Hitachi Triple Hammer Impact Driver and other green 18-volt models. The new black tools performed incredibly well, with even more power when using a 3.0 amp-hour battery. However, you can still get great performance with the 1.5 amp-hour battery included in the kit.
A Quick Rant on Batteries
Why is a 1.5 amp-hour battery included? There are so many options out there, and for just a few cents more, you could have a 2 amp-hour battery or even a 3 amp-hour battery in these kits. We get that this is a budget line, but Metabo HPT, please give us a better battery.
Drills
We also tested the new black drills and were equally impressed. Starting with a ¾ inch spade bit, we had no issues drilling through material on the highest setting. Even with the larger 1.25-inch bit, the drill only stalled out towards the end, but switching to the MultiVolt battery allowed it to go through the material with ease.
Downsides to the Black Tools
There are a few downsides to consider when purchasing these black tools. First, you’re going to get a more basic fuel gauge on the battery, meaning it’s not as precise as other models. To see the level of charge, you’ll have to pull the trigger, and the LED lights will show either full charge or below half charge. It would be much more convenient to see the battery level without putting it in the tool and pulling the trigger.
Another downside is that these tools are single speed. However, the variable speed trigger helps make up for this, allowing for greater control. Most people will find this sufficient for their needs.
Final Thoughts
If you’re a fan of the Metabo HPT tools or the MultiVolt line, these new black tools are an affordable and powerful option. They’re perfect for those who want something smaller and more lightweight than their green counterparts. Check out the links in the description for more information on these tools and where to find them.
In conclusion, we think these black Metabo HPT tools are a great addition to any tool collection, offering excellent power and performance at an affordable price. Will they rival the bigger “red tools” in the market? We’ll let you discuss that in the comments. As always, we appreciate your time and encourage you to give this article a like, subscribe to the channel, and have a great day!

I wish I could find a video of the Metabo 18v 1200 inch pound hammer drill. That one comes with the auxiliary handle.
One of the best mhpt/Hikoki videos I’ve seen from the states
The 18v and 36v impact drivers have triple hammers.
like most JapanoBrands, is 'IP56 rated for real'.
Not some dumb trademark moniker like 'BuiltTough' or 'XPT' … an actual IP56 rating 🙂
Can you please tell me the difference between the green metabo compact sawzall cr18 da and the other they have with a sse ltx model number? I'm wanting to purchase one but don't know which to get. I've tried to research the difference between these. Thank you!
I have the metabo triple hammer impact driver and I use it for taking the blades off my commercial mower and when I do hardscape with pressure treated timbers it's so amazing and powerful. It even put lug nuts on my diesel truck and I barely had a torque them after it. I really am impressed
The do make the triple hammer in the 18v but it is under the hikoki name and the sale it at my Bunnings Warehouse
It's called the multivolt battery system for a reason. They have 36v & 18v battery and they will both run all the metabo multivolt tools. I run a 18v 3ah battery on my triple hammer and I definitely have enough power.
Just wanted to stop in and say…
Man, your awesome. Out of all the tool channels and tool community you flat out keep it 💯% . I’m a concrete finisher in Louisville Kentucky and was raised and taught the old school ways of doing things. 🔨 in fluted or cut masonry nails by hand to hold 2×4 blocking on concrete foundations to frame porches or whatever the case may be. I’ve persuaded all the old timers to jump into the modern technology. We now use tapcons 💪👍🙏🤣. Just wanted you to know I come to you 1st. Any questions I have ever had with any tool or any brand, you have more than answered. I appreciate it man. I really do. You have saved me a lot of time and money with your knowledge. New subscriber here man and always will be. Thanks for the amazing content brother and God Bless

I picked up a 5 tool kit of the multivolt at Lowe's a couple months ago. It included the drill/driver, the tripple hammer impact, 36v circular saw and reciprocating saw, and a flashlight. I can attest, as a local handyman, the platform has crazy power and feels good in your hand. I'd place it with Bosch and DeWalt in terms of it's workhorse nature. I got the kit on clearance for $280.
Is it me or the black Metabo HPT dril has a plastic chuck while the green version got a full metal chuck? Other than that it looks to have the same torque and specs
Honestly Metabo is overrated……they look and feel cheaper than "the hype" on the internet…..i seriously think 95% of people on these comments are TOTAL newbies, period.
I am 1.5 years late on this and should have seen this and the Ryobi dumpster fire vid before I bought into Ryobi HP. I love Ryobi because I can get cordless fans, lights, automotive buffers, infaltors, etc. AND get Ryobi HP stuff for heavy duty projects and be on the same system.
Should have never bought the Ryobi HP drill/impact combo and (2) 2Ah batteries. For the same price I should have got Metabo HPT kits and used the Ryobi system for it's light duty and versatile options, which it is good at.
I have the 12v and the 18v metabo drills love them
Just picked up the WH18DBFL2 18v impact driver from LOWE'S for $35.00 on CLEARANCE !! THINK 🤔 I DID GOOD !!
Hi. does DS18DBFL2QB have ratcheting chuck ? I also have thiat model but it does not have the "clicking- locking" type of sound; I started to suspect if mine is faulty
Very informative videos by the way, I always check them before. buying any tool
YES GOOD VIDEO BUT THE SMALL 2AH BATTERY WONT LAST A MONTH IF USING IT WITH RHE LARGER BIT
Started using hitachi stuff right about a year or two before the name change. Still have the triple hammer 18v hitachi impact, and multivolt hammer drill. Just picked up the compact 18v oscillating tool and the compact 18v reciprocating saw. I've used milwaukee tools and dewalt tools and the only difference I can tell, is the metabo hpt has a better hand feel. Absolutely love the line!
I just pick up one (black cordless drill) up this afternoon.
The Metabo HPT (BLACK) cordless DRILL (model#ds18dbfl2QB) is an excellent drill. It has practically the highest torque in the compact class – higher than some medium duty drills.
Metabo HPT is super underrated. I have only seen one other worker use them (Hitachi). All Ryobi, Makita, Dewalt, Ridgid, and Mostly Milwaukee. So Sad.
Buy a new MetaboHPT 18V impact screwdriver, is it normal that in its first uses with large screws a little burning smell comes out ??? Thanks if someone answers.
Great video! LOVE my Hitachi and Metabo tools. I've been looking at the black versions lately as backups for my green ones. It's great that their value line isn't gimped and are just recolored versions with all the power.
One thing I noticed with the green hammer drill is the noisy gear box. That thing squeals even at low rpm. It felt heavy and powerful. It terrified me.
So can you put a bigger battery on the black ones?
