Tool Tip: Using a router with a straight edge

Hey everybody just wanted to share a quick
tip and give you a little bit of information about this Dewalt compact
cordless router now the compact routers have been one of our fastest growing
segments on Acme tools.com and this router is one of the main reasons now
there's something to pay attention to on the base especially when you're going to
be using this on a straight edge when you look at the base it's a little bit
differently shape we've got a round section here in a large flat section
here when you're going to use this router on a straight edge most people
think that this is the side to use and we're gonna do a quick demonstration
using this side and a couple inches into our cut my hand is gonna move it's just
gonna wiggle just a little bit but you'll see what happens to that cut so
let's get ready to go here and you can see just that little bit of
movement along your straight edge is gonna wreck your cut there we go
so you can see this whole area here is where I was turning the router and we've
got a nice flat edge so whenever you decide to use a straight edge with your
router doesn't matter if it's a compact router or if it's a full-size router
make sure you use the round side against your straight edge and that'll allow you
to do your best work
