DeWalt has released two new 20 volt Flexvolt Advantage grinders, the DCG 416 and the DCG 409. While both versions share the same specs, the DCG 416 is a paddle switch grinder while the DCG 409 is a slide switch grinder. Both grinders have a variable speed dial at the bottom that ranges from 3000 to 9000 RPMs, making it easy to adjust the speed. Additionally, they have an electronic brake feature that turns everything off in case of a pinch or any other safety issue.

Both grinders feature four-and-a-half to five-inch discs, and they utilize the same method of taking the discs off, which is convenient in terms of swapping accessories. Another advantage is the auxiliary handle which can be positioned on either the right or left side making it easy to use.

It should be noted that the Flexvolt Advantage line is a 20-volt tool and not capable of flexible power. But the line is still impressive in terms of the amount of power it offers for a 20-volt tool, and it comes with a satisfactory amount of runtime.

While it’s true that the 9 amp hour flexible batteries make the grinder feel huge and more powerful, the power stack is a more compact option that provides similar power output and can be used for longer periods with great results. This is what makes buying from the Flexvolt Advantage line a great option, as it allows users to utilize different batteries to achieve more power.

The variable speed option of the grinders is impressive as well, along with the electronic brake and the tool’s kickback brake, making it perfect for a variety of tasks. Moreover, the grip is comfortable and designed to perfection, especially with the paddle switch. The safety feature at the bottom is an added bonus as it allows for the paddles to be pushed without any inconvenience.

The tool’s vent system is also noteworthy, which makes cleaning and maintenance pretty simple. As for the battery life, it largely depends on the type of job at hand and how hard the tool is being pushed. But generally speaking, the more amp hour batteries used, the longer the grinder’s battery life would be.

In conclusion, DeWalt‘s Flexvolt Advantage line is a great option, providing power and great features with its grinders, all while being flexible enough to use different batteries. Overall, these grinders are worth investing in for a variety of DIY projects.

  1. Could you answer me a question please? On some Euro vids ive seen on this, when running on 20v battery, the speed doesnt increase past speed 4 on the dial…only when flexvolt battery is put on does it reach higher speed on dial 4-6.Is there an issue here with grinder not reaching 9000 rpm when on 20v? Or am i seeing/hearing it wrong? Thanks

  2. Bought the dcg 416 really light and comfortable. But I use the 1.7 power stack since I don't have any bigger batteries right now. And it works just fine.

  3. I finally got my hands on the new powerstack 5ah battery can't wait to use it on my grinder.

  4. I need this sh!t in my life! In the UK!

  5. Out of all cordless dewalt grinder which one is the most powerful?

  6. I've been using the DC409VS slide switch version for a month. Absolutely no issues thus far. It is certainly the most versatile angle grinder that I've used, and is a perfect companion to the DCG426 straight grinder.

  7. my question how well this cuts bricks?

  8. @WorkshopAddict – didn't catch if you said – is the DCG416VSB made in Mexico or China?

  9. That's pretty awesome. I really wish they would team up with bosch and pay for their xlock blade change tech. I know it's easy to change but man that would really be something special.

  10. Nice work WA🤘🇦🇺

  11. Finally battery powered variable speed grinder!

  12. They have to do a flexvolt version at some point, now.

  13. You don't have links. Is this available to the public yet?

  14. Fantastic review. I like the big paddle switch too. Love your channel. Keep up the great work!

  15. Omg finally dewalt makes a variable speed grinder

  16. Good job clearing that up bout the flexvolt grinder power comparison. The flexvolt grinder is a badass grinder. Milwaukee doesnt even come close with their 6" model even tho its newer. Its jus a tool that truly works better with a higher voltage. I believe its dewalts best tool in their whole lineup. Of course they come out with variable speed after i got a flex grinder jus for that even tho im hugely invested in dewalt

  17. Wish they put the variable speed on the flat-head grinder. They tend to not put many of the added features on the flat-head because flat-head IS the feature, but I still prefer it due to the reach you get.

  18. Thanks again for the information and have a great day! 😎😎🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

  19. Again you put out quality work and info. Thanks for your hard work.
