Narrow Sander Gets The Job Done
I originally purchased the Wen sander to sand the varnish on my front door. I cut a piece of 320 grit sandpaper and carefully fitted it to the sanding plate. This little 1/3 sheet sander works very well on the outside edges of my decorator front door. Of course, some areas of that door are too narrow even for this sander and therefore required hand sanding. But it fit on the outer edges better than my old ear piercing 1/4 sheet B&D sander that was short but wider. So on a door like mine, a narrow Sander has its advantages. It has a bag to trap the dust but when using 320 grit on spar varnish, the dust is so fine that some of it penetrates the bag. This is a good little sander. I recommend it.

great value
Nice lite weight sander. Has enough power to do general sanding and is quiet as well. I only use it with hook and loop papers and has held together during use. The price is exceptional for the occasional user.

A very good finishing sander.
I do a lot of woodworking, especially since I retired. I am currently refinishing my mother’s Morganton bedroom set that she purchased 70 years ago. It involves a lot of stripping and very careful sanding of the veneered furniture. I was primarily using a HF Bauer finishing sander. I compared it to the Wen finishing sander. During the comparison, both did the job about equally well except that while I was using it, a large chunk of the rubber pad on the HF sander came off at one of its corners. So, I had to throw the HF sander out at the end of this comparison! It lasted a whole year. The HF Bauer sander costs $44. For that, you can buy 2 Wen 6313 sanders, and I did. Previously, I had a HF Chicago Electric sander that lasted a whole 2 weeks. Here’s what I found with the Wen sander:The Wen has the hook and loop (like Velcro) surface permanently attached on its rubber pad. On the HF model, it was only rubber and the 3M Pro sandpaper would have its non-slip surface melt onto the rubber pad while using it and changing paper on the HF sander would pull off small amounts of the rubber pad, until the pad and therefore the sander were no longer usable. The hook and loop surface on the Wen should prevent that from happening. But here’s the problem with that: The distance around the base to the paper clamps is slightly longer because of the thicker pad, so it’s a bit tricky getting the 1/3 sheet sandpaper on this sander. The paper needs to be pretty much centered. There is less than 1/8″ of overlap on the front and back sides when the paper is clamped in. The paper has to be pretty tight and the clamps can tear it on its lateral edges. However, in no case did the paper come off while I was using it (as others have complained) and I used the sander long enough to wear out several sheets of sandpaper. The Wen is light, easy to control, about average in noise (but always wear hearing protection when using sanders, etc.). The cord length is the same as the HF and both are too short compared to my Sears Craftsmen sander.Overall, this sander is not perfect. Paper loading is a bit of a challenge, but it’s not really all that difficult. It works well as a sander and the price is so low for these that buying more than one may make sense for you. That way, you can keep one as a backup, or use them all with different grit sizes loaded in each. Wen products have quality control. HF – not so much. $44 vs $20 – for me, buying the Wen is a no-brainer.

A definite buy!
I wanted a third sheet sander to cover a bit more surface area for the table I’m working on so I started doing some research. I already own high end sanders so when I saw this WEN brand sander I honestly didn’t think much of it considering the price and the fact that I was unfamiliar with the brand. I purchased it and thought that if it died or performed poorly that I wasn’t out much money and I would buy another Dewalt, etc. I have run this sander for nearly 20 straight 60 grit sheets of clip on paper and have worked it nearly 4 straight hours now and it isn’t even phased!!! This is by far one of the best sanders I have ever used and believe me I have a bunch of them! The hook and loop feature is nice but I mainly use 3m 3x third sheet sand paper and it performs flawlessly! Well built, nice looking, quality parts and most importantly, it sands like my 200 dollar sanders! You can also go on industrialabrasives.com and buy third sheet hook and loop paper in bulk and really inexpensively! Not only do I recommend this sander, I’m buying a second one to give as a gift to a friend! This sander is underpriced and is really going to put a hurting on high dollar sanders that don’t seem to perform all that better!

Worked great until it didn’t – twice
I bought this sander to sand some drywall. I used the drywall sanding screen and attached the dust catcher to a bucket head vac. It worked great for about one wall, with no dust getting out as I had connected the discharge of the vac to a hose running outside so I didn’t need to worry about clogging filter, as I had removed it. The motor started to slow and eventually would not orbit any more. I bought a second one, as well as a Mikita sander as a backup. The second wen didn’t do much better and I had to finish with the Mikita. Both of the wens failed the same way. Now, I really liked the way it worked (and it even collected the dust better than the backup), and maybe it was not designed for my purpose, but I was expecting to at least finish the small bathroom before it cratered. It may be great for sanding wood with sandpaper, but I feel it should have performed on drywall. The clips to hold the paper worked really well.I gave it 3 star as, for the price, it seemed to be built well. I just don’t think it liked the drywall dust using the sanding screen, although I don’t know why. If I was going to sand some wood, I would give this a try, but I’m not going to buy a third one….BTW, The sanding screens worked great and didn’t clog at all with the vac attached. You couldn’t tell I was sanding in the room as the vac picked up all the dust and sent it outside. I had bought a hand sander with a hose to attach to a shop vac on amazon. The hose fit perfectly to the wen sander. I used the bucket head hose for the discharge and connected a bigger hose after that to make the discharge dump outside.
