Affordable and gets job done
Bought this sander for ceiling after popcorn removal. I was very satisfied with its efficiency in removing final popcorn down to drywall. Hooked it up to my Ridgid shop vac (with Ridgid hepa filter and generic dust bag) and the dust was minimal. Used 120 grit mesh disc. This product is worth every penny! Buy it!

Pretty awesome tool
I was very surprised how well this sander kept the drywall compound dust under control. I read in another review that 95% of the dust was sucked up. I think it’s more like 98% of the dust. I’m very glad I bought this. I wish I would have bought a model that had a light built into it but this one did everything I needed it to do. My wife was very happy that she didn’t have to clean up drywall dust for days. It made me happy because I didn’t have to hear her complain about cleaning up drywall dust. It does get a little heavy when you’re using it. I imagine all of them get a little heavy. Which is no big deal because you should take some breaks. It did cut my sanding time into a third of what it would have taken me to do by hand and kept me clean too! I didn’t even really need to wear a mask.

Does what it’s supposed to do, sands drywall compound or mud smooth.
Bought this because I plan to fix up and repaint the walls in our finished basement. Have used a handheld dustless drywall sander that you hook up to a shop vac previously, but for the price, thought I would give this Wen unit a try. Picked it over othat models because it has the triangular head that vibrates / oscillates as well as a circular spinning head. From doing body work on cars and woodworking, I know a vibrating or oscillating sander is going to do a better finish level job than a circular / spinning sander. Spinning is good for fast, heavy material removal, but you need to know how to use it, and if you don’t use it correctly, it will gouge the surface, and can walk away on you. My experience and observations are as follows: With the motor mounted on the end or head unit, it is heavy and awkward to use on a ceiling. You have to be make sure you keep the head unit flat on the surface, start out slow, and increase the speed slowly. On walls, it’s not as much of a problem, but still need to make sure and keep the head flat on the wall. Also, if you’ve never worked on drywall before, and don’t know how to feather out the joint or repair, this sander isn’t going to make you a pro or even a good amateur, you need to know what to do and how to do it first, this just makes the job easier. I had no problem with dust at all. Hooked it up to a 6.5HP shop vac with a dust bag inside the canister, and no dust came out at all. The key to keeping the dust down is a strong shop vac, with a clean filter, so you have a lot of suction and air flow. Still needed to wipe down or vacuum the walls before painting, but that’s just good practice. Had no problems with the sander at all, nothing broke, overheated, of fell apart, overall it’s a good value for the money.

Amazing product, best results.
The WEN DW1085 is a game-changer for drywall projects — powerful, efficient, and impressively clean. If you’re tackling drywall sanding and want a tool that balances performance with user-friendliness, the WEN DW1085 10-Amp Variable Speed Handheld Drywall Sander is a standout choice. I recently used it on bathroom wall with very hard thick ugly texture , and it exceeded expectations in every way. Easy to use and easy to assemble. As you can see in video that ugly thick texture on my bathroom wall, it has different speed levels according to the thickness of the texture to remove and very efficient to do it’s job on different levels and speeds.

An absolute life saver – YOU NEED THIS!
Would give 10 stars if I could. We skim coated a room in our new house and ran into an issue with sanding. Nothing we had bought for the project was even making a dent in the joint compound on the walls. This thing was a life saver. An absolute god send. This sander is so easy to use and works SO WELL. Some other reviewers mentioned really good dust collection, I’d say it got about 80% of the dust. Way better than the orbital sander or a pole sander but definitely still left some dust around. Expect an arm, shoulder, and back workout while using this thing, but it really works. Was able to sand skim coating down in a good sized room to perfectly smooth in under an hour. Haven’t used it for anything else yet but this will be staying in our tool box for sure.

Why are there so many good reviews?!
Do you like dust? Use it on your ceilings. It captures must of the fine dust that blows around but the heavier sanded compound collects in the head of the unit and when you pull it down, all the trapped compound goes all over the floor and sprinkles through the air.Do you like it to go from slow to fast really quickly? Well you’re in luck, because the placement of the speed dial is in a great location to get caught on your body as you move it around, back and forth, and will quickly turn all the way up! Get ready to patch some holes from the edge of the sander catching the wall! Why it has go to all the way up to 1500 RPMs I don’t get. I was on the lowest speed the entire time and it was fine. Any faster and you will quickly catch and edge and burn a hole in the wall that has to be patched. I turned it up some a few times and it was ok, but 1500?The power needed for 1500 RPMS is most likely why it requires the heavy motor. Me, at 210 lbs, lift weights all the time, the motor is tooooooooo heavy for this tool, and long durations of use. Because of the motor weight, I found the tool is only balanced holding up it upright on walls. Ceiling? No. Bottom of walls? No. It wants to catch the edge of the sanding pad so bad when you’re doing the bottoms of walls. The heavy motor keeps wanting to pull one edge harder against the wall. This is a great tool if you are only doing lots of walls. It will quickly save time. Returning for a handheld unit.

I highly recommend this product. I am a DIY novice but thru need had to repair a hole 24×60 inches after removal of cupboard from my kitchen ceiling. As the rest of the ceiling was textured we decided to remove it. (See That Kilted Guy on youtube) after research we decided we needed to get a tool for the job. As budget was tight decided on the WEN 6369 variable speed sander. This item is quite heavy and long and comes with a +-15ft hose and a shoulder strap. We hooked up the vac hose to a Rigid 35L shop vacuum and fitted both a bag and pleated filter(blue) to the inside to stop dust being blown around. I recommend using a 90 or 120 grit sanding disc to start with just to get used to it and use the variable speed at lowest setting. The motor on the head for the oscillator causes it to tilt. To overcome this it is better to get close to the ceiling and hold the machine parallel to the ceiling switch it on lift and let the brushes that surround the sanding disc come into contact with the ceiling. This gives nice even pressure and stops disc chatter. Dont put too much pressure or sweep to fast as this may overwhelm the vacuum and clog up the holes. The holes may sometimes get blocked but a quick palm slap dislodges it. The weight does give your shoulders a work out but there are two “feet” attached to the end of the wand. I tried using them hooked into my tool pouch and found that it gave moderate pressure relief to the shoulders. My solution was to do 30 minutes and give it a break. Long sweeps along a path give the best results. Once we started the mudding a whole new universe exploded upon me. See That Kilted Guy again for his vids on how to mud. It took two muddings with a final spackle just get it right. After each sanding we used an LED flashlight with beam held accutely to the ceiling to see the imperfections from the sanding. This helped to see where further sanding was needed. After three days I had the technique. The discs supplied have 8 holes in the middle and I would recommend only purchasing these as they feed a lot of powder into the vacuum tube. I have not used sanding discs without holes so cannot compare. The thought of trying to do this project by hand would be daunting especially with the amount of dust that is generated. I would say we captured over 90% of the dust in the shop vacuum. After three full days of sanding the bag was full of dust but the pleated filter showed no sign of dust. So you could get away with the bag only. The WEN 6369 is a great tool and indispensible if you plan on doing drywall.

I have been using them for years but also had the princess auto model which was great but has changed. This model of the Wenn was the closest looking and feels the same when using and easy switch button to reach and works the same. Great for sheetrock sanding and mud but like every electric model they are heavy when working over head. Train more than one worker on this product so others can see how much they beat up the shoulders but it makes life easier and with a powerful HEPA vacuum it can easily collect 75% of the dust.
