Why the Brushless Motor Makes All the Difference
During our testing, the brushless motor technology proved to be more than just a marketing buzzword. We noticed significantly longer runtime compared to our older brushed sanders, and the tool maintained consistent power even as the battery depleted. The motor runs cooler and quieter than we expected – something we really appreciated during extended sanding sessions where noise fatigue can become a real issue.
The efficiency gains are noticeable. We completed an entire kitchen cabinet refinishing project on a single battery charge, which would have required at least two battery swaps with our previous sander. This brushless design also means fewer maintenance headaches down the road since there are no carbon brushes to replace.
Multi-Sanding Versatility We Actually Used
The “multi” in multi-sander isn’t just for show. This tool came with multiple base attachments that we genuinely found useful rather than gimmicky. The detail sander attachment became our go-to for getting into tight corners on window frames, while the square pad handled larger flat surfaces with ease.
What impressed us most was the tool-free pad change system. We timed ourselves switching between attachments, and it took less than 10 seconds once we got the hang of it. No fumbling with Allen keys or screws – just press, rotate, and lock. During a project where we needed to alternate between detail work and broad surface sanding, this quick-change feature saved us considerable time and frustration.
Key Features That Actually Matter
Variable Speed Control
The variable speed dial (7,000 to 12,000 OPM) provided genuinely useful control. We found the lower speeds perfect for delicate finishes where we didn’t want to burn through the surface, while the higher speeds tackled rough material removal efficiently. The dial has solid detents that give good tactile feedback, so you’re not constantly wondering what speed you’ve selected.
Compact Design That Reduces Fatigue
At just 3.5 pounds (without battery), we could work overhead for extended periods without our arms turning to jelly. We spent about two hours sanding a ceiling patch, and while we definitely felt it afterward, the lightweight design made it far more manageable than it would have been with our heavier corded sander.
Dust Collection That Works
Let’s be honest – most sanders claim “superior dust collection” and then leave your workspace looking like a sawdust snow globe. The SKIL SR6607B-00 actually does a respectable job. When connected to our shop vacuum, we’d estimate it captured about 85-90% of the dust. Even using just the included dust bag, it caught enough to keep the air relatively clear, though we definitely recommend the vacuum hookup for indoor work.
Transform Your Sanding Projects Today
The ergonomic grip design deserves special mention. The rubberized overmold didn’t just feel comfortable – it provided excellent control even when our hands got sweaty during summer workshop sessions. The grip positioning feels natural, and the tool’s center of gravity keeps it stable without requiring a death grip.
We particularly appreciated the forward placement of the palm rest. This design choice distributes pressure evenly across the sanding surface without requiring you to lean heavily on the tool. For achieving uniform finishes, this balanced design proved invaluable.
Real-World Performance Testing
We put this sander through several challenging scenarios to see how it held up:
**Refinishing Solid Wood Furniture:** We stripped and refinished an old oak dresser. The SKIL handled the initial rough sanding with 60-grit paper without bogging down, then transitioned smoothly to finer grits for the finish work. The variable speed proved essential here – we used lower speeds for the final 220-grit passes to avoid swirl marks.
**Drywall Smoothing:** After patching several walls, we used the detail sander attachment to feather the edges. The compact size let us work close to corners and ceiling lines without damaging adjacent surfaces. The dust collection kept the mess manageable, which anyone who’s sanded drywall can appreciate.
**Deck Restoration:** This was the torture test. We tackled weathered deck boards that needed significant material removal. While this isn’t really what a detail sander is designed for, the tool kept pace better than expected. We did notice the battery drained faster during this heavy-duty work, but the motor never labored or overheated.
What Customers Are Saying (And What We Found Too)
After using the SKIL 20V Brushless Cordless Multi-Sander Tool Only PWR CORE 20 extensively, we wanted to see how our experience compared with other users. The consensus among customers mirrors many of our own findings.
Multiple reviewers praised the power-to-weight ratio, with one user noting they could “work all day without fatigue” – something we definitely experienced during our longer projects. The brushless motor consistently gets positive mentions for its runtime and power delivery, validating our observations about its efficiency.
Several customers specifically highlighted the quick-change pad system as a game-changer, especially those working on varied projects. One cabinet maker mentioned switching between detail and surface sanding “dozens of times a day” without frustration, which aligns perfectly with our experience.
The dust collection receives mixed but generally positive feedback. Most users, like us, find it works well with a vacuum attachment but merely adequate with just the dust bag. One reviewer’s tip about ensuring the bag is properly seated resonated – we noticed significantly better collection after double-checking our attachment.
Some users wished it came with a battery and charger, but most appreciated the lower price point of the tool-only version, especially those already invested in the SKIL PWR CORE 20 ecosystem. A few mentioned the battery doesn’t last as long on maximum speed, which matches our experience during the heavy-duty deck sanding test.
Who Should Consider This Sander?
Based on our testing, this tool is ideal for:
**DIY Enthusiasts:** If you’re already in the SKIL 20V ecosystem, this is a no-brainer addition. The tool-only format keeps costs down, and the performance exceeds what you’d expect at this price point.
**Professional Finish Carpenters:** The detail capabilities and quick pad changes make this excellent for trim work, cabinetry, and furniture projects where precision matters.
**Home Renovators:** The versatility to handle everything from drywall to refinishing makes this a solid single-sander solution for most home improvement projects.
**Woodworkers on a Budget:** You get brushless technology and genuine multi-sanding capability without the premium price tag of some competitor models.

Better than expected!
I bought this sander to back up my dewalt corded ro sander. I’ve used it a few times now connected to my shop vac with a cen tec adapter. It feels good in the hand, minimal vibration for a sander, and the variable speed is nice! I don’t know how well the dust bag works because inside I will only have it connected to one of my vac systems. It may be a little large for someone with small hands, but I wear a large size glove and it’s fine for me. I also like the power core battery since I can charge my other battery on my 18ga Brad nailer with it. My other cordless tools are dewalt, but they wanted too much for a sander and nailer. I’m happy with this unit. My corded dewalt sander may end up being the backup to this!

Easy to use for what I want to do with it and quality is subpar and the best thing is that you don’t have to drag out electric cords or drag around the cords

Funciona excelente, solo tiene un fallo con el colector de polvo ya que con la vibración llega a salirse solo. Pero en general buen producto calidad precio.
