What Makes This 5-Tool Combo Kit Stand Out?

The NEWONE 5-Tool Cordless Combo Kit isn’t just another generic power tool set. What caught our attention immediately was the compatibility with Makita 18V batteries—a game-changer for anyone already invested in the Makita ecosystem. This cross-compatibility means you’re not locked into buying expensive proprietary batteries, which is a huge cost-saving benefit we appreciated during our testing.

The kit includes five essential tools that cover nearly every home improvement and construction scenario: a drill/driver, reciprocating saw, impact driver, oscillating multi-tool, and random orbital sander. During our hands-on testing, we put each tool through rigorous real-world applications, from building a deck to renovating a bathroom, and the results exceeded our expectations.

Our In-Depth Testing Experience

Cordless Drill/Driver: Power Meets Precision

The 18V drill/driver became our go-to tool within the first few days of testing. We drilled through hardwood, softwood, metal, and masonry, and this drill handled everything we threw at it. The two-speed gearbox (0-400 RPM for high torque applications and 0-1500 RPM for faster drilling) gave us the control we needed for different materials.

What really impressed us was the 21+1 torque settings. Whether we were driving delicate screws into cabinet doors or drilling pilot holes through 2x4s, we could dial in the exact amount of power needed. The ½-inch keyless chuck gripped our drill bits securely—we never experienced any slippage, even during heavy-duty applications.

The built-in LED work light proved invaluable when working in tight, dimly lit spaces like under sinks or inside cabinets. This isn’t just a throwaway feature; it’s genuinely useful and positioned perfectly to illuminate your work area.

Reciprocating Saw: Demolition Made Easy

For demolition work and cutting through various materials, the reciprocating saw in this kit is a beast. We used it to cut through PVC pipes, prune tree branches, demolish an old fence, and even cut through nails embedded in wood during a renovation project.

The tool-free blade change system worked flawlessly in our tests. Even wearing work gloves, we could swap blades in seconds without fumbling for an Allen key or wrench. The variable speed trigger gave us excellent control, allowing for precise cuts when needed and aggressive cutting when speed was more important than finesse.

One standout feature we noticed was the minimal vibration during operation. We’ve used cheaper reciprocating saws that shake your entire arm, but the NEWONE design includes vibration-dampening technology that makes extended use far more comfortable.

Impact Driver: Torque When You Need It Most

The impact driver quickly became our preferred tool for driving long screws and lag bolts. During deck construction, we drove hundreds of 3-inch deck screws, and this impact driver didn’t bog down once. The impacting mechanism delivers rotational force in short bursts, which prevents cam-out and stripped screw heads—a problem we’ve dealt with countless times using standard drills.

The hex chuck accepts all standard ¼-inch hex shank bits, and the magnetic bit holder kept our bits secure even when working overhead. At just over 2 pounds (without battery), the impact driver is lightweight enough for extended use without causing fatigue, yet powerful enough to handle demanding applications.

Oscillating Multi-Tool: The Swiss Army Knife of Power Tools

If you’ve never used an oscillating multi-tool before, prepare to wonder how you ever lived without one. During our testing, we used this versatile tool for cutting drywall, removing grout, sanding in tight corners, undercutting door jambs for new flooring, and scraping away old caulk.

The variable speed dial (10,000-20,000 OPM) allowed us to adjust the oscillation rate based on the material and application. For delicate work like cutting around electrical boxes in drywall, we kept the speed lower. For aggressive material removal, we cranked it up.

The tool-free accessory change system worked perfectly with the included blades and accessories. We appreciated that NEWONE included a variety of blades and sanding pads right in the box—you can start working immediately without buying additional accessories.

Random Orbital Sander: Smooth Finish Every Time

The 5-inch random orbital sander rounds out this impressive collection. We used it to sand furniture projects, prepare surfaces for painting, and smooth rough lumber. The random orbital action (12,000 OPM) prevents swirl marks that plague standard orbital sanders, delivering a consistently smooth finish.

The hook-and-loop (Velcro) sanding pad system makes changing sandpaper quick and easy. We cycled through various grits during furniture refinishing, and the pads held securely throughout our testing. The dust collection system, while not perfect, captured a significant amount of sawdust when connected to our shop vacuum, keeping our workspace cleaner.

One feature we particularly appreciated was the palm-grip design. The low-profile, ergonomic shape allowed us to maintain control during extended sanding sessions without hand cramping—something we’ve experienced with bulkier sanders.

Battery Performance and Charging

The included 2.0Ah lithium-ion battery performed admirably during our testing. While 2.0Ah isn’t the largest capacity available, we found it sufficient for most DIY projects and even some professional applications. For context, we could drill approximately 200 holes in pine 2x4s, drive about 150 3-inch deck screws with the impact driver, or sand for roughly 30 minutes continuously on a single charge.

The battery features lithium-ion technology with no memory effect, meaning you can charge it whenever convenient without degrading its capacity over time. We tested the battery protection system by intentionally overworking the tools in hot conditions, and the built-in protection circuitry prevented overheating and overloading, automatically shutting down before any damage could occur.

The included charger is straightforward and efficient. From completely dead to fully charged took approximately 45-60 minutes in our tests. The LED indicator clearly shows charging status: red while charging and green when complete. We recommend purchasing an additional battery if you plan to use these tools professionally or for extended projects—having a backup battery charging while working eliminates downtime.

Makita Battery Compatibility: A Major Advantage

Perhaps the most significant selling point of this kit is its compatibility with Makita 18V LXT batteries. During our testing, we used several different Makita batteries we already owned, and they all worked flawlessly with every tool in this kit.

If you’re already invested in the Makita 18V platform, this compatibility is a tremendous value proposition. You can expand your tool collection without multiplying your battery inventory. Conversely, if you purchase this NEWONE kit first, you’re not locked into a proprietary ecosystem—you can mix and match with

Works as well as expected, good tool for hom use. easy to swap head pieces.
Surprisingly this works pretty well. It is several tools all in one with replaceable head pieces to give you a saw, drill, or sander. The quality on this was not too bad. It is definitely not the most powerful device but it works. The drill head does a good job at drilling holes into the wall or stud. It can take a little effort and force to push into the stud. The first thing I will say about this is that it does the job you need but this is not one those high end drill. It will not be something you want to use on say concrete. This is not a hammer drill. This is also comes with a saw attachment. To installed the head piece, you just to press the lock, replace the piece, and lock. It holds the different head attachments in place pretty well without much issue. It does not fall off which is good considering one of the attachment is a saw. It does come with only one battery and it is not fully charge when it arrived so I would recommend charging it before use. The initial power that was in the battery lasted about an hour before needing to recharge (I had held the button down to drain the power). If you are just using this from time to time, I expect the battery will take some time to drain. There is a charging cable to charge your battery. You can plug the battery in and it takes about three hours to fully charge. The power brick does take up more than one slot on the surge protector so be aware of that. The handle is easy to grip. The saw does an okay job cutting into slaps of wood but nothing extremely thick. It may take some effort and do not over squeeze the trigger so you can gauge how much power you need. The carrying case is a nice touch as you can easily store this and the accessories but the case is not the most solid piece. The sander works okay. It is not as strong as say a sander tool as it can be a bit annoying to grip the entire time. Overall this is a good multi tool device to have if you are looking something basic with multiple tools in one. It can do most basic jobs but if you are looking into drilling or cutting into thick material this may not work. It does work great for my fence work. It does not come with any drill bits in the bag it comes with. The case is okay but not the most sturdiest. It does however keep you from losing pieces and keeps you organized. Also, the vibrations for that long may actually hurt your wrist so take it easy when using this drill for long periods.

Nice idea but bad quality control
I bought one combo kit and opened it and tried the attached battery while the other charged. Worked great, cut great. Better than expected. However 2nd battery would not charge. Waited over night but nothing. Tried to get another battery. No luck. Returned for replacement. Replacement was used product with missing parts and only one battery. I would avoid this like the plague. Nice idea but if you can’t get everything first or even 2nd try forget it. And they don’t sell the batteries separately.

    +Decent $ -oscillating attachments.
So I been having a set of the B&D matrix for probably over 7 years or how ever long ago that it came out and some parts finally started wearing down so I started looking to replace and came across this set for a steal and I must say:+So far so good. Not gonna find a better price on the market for set of 5 power tools. Seem to be made of some pretty heavy duty parts. Comes with a good amount of attachments for each attachment tool.-for me anyway the only negative thing about mine is that I’m guessing they sent me a used toolset or the manufacturer forgot to put any attachment at all for the OSCILLATION tool.+++Love the fact it comes with a hard plastic case that actually fits everything nicely and really amazing how it’s not bulky at all. It’s basically a traveling workshop.-Edited forgot to mention about the battery charging is very sketchy. I never seen the battery indicator ever reading 3 bars outta 3 light up and the indicator is very weird and unclear compared to any other battery tools ever.Kinda frustrating that sellers can sell you items that you get a month in and you screwed bc you can’t return now being you had it for a month and in this situation I couldn’t ever return it bc it’s their word against mine that the product they sold me was missing all the oscillating tool attachments so from would have been hard returning something you half way got.

Perfect for women who want to get their own honey dooo’s done!
Flipping love this machine. Perfect for women for around the house projects. It doesn’t have the strength of a big name drill but it will most definitely get the job done. It is slightly heavier than your normal drill, so keep that in mind if your project is a going to be a slightly longer more intensive project but honestly I use this thing all the time. It has lasted even though I have not been the best at taking care of it to be honest.

    Quit working
I purchased this item about 9 months ago. The idea is good, but the construction of the item is obviously not, as I have used it a total of maybe 30 minutes since purchased. The drill worked well for the 20 minutes total that I have used it since I bought it. I tried to use the multi-tool attachment, and it suddenly stopped after less than 10 minutes. So I checked the battery, and when I did, I thought it was dead. However once fully charged I attempted to use it again, and the light would turn on like it was getting power, but nothing happened outside that. There is no warranty, and the return window is closed, so there is nothing that can be done. At least I only wasted $90 (I say sarcastically) on this after applying a coupon. And oh look. . .it has almost doubled in price.

Plug doesn’t fit Canadian outlets. Not impressed. Missing some accessories and no sand paper. Seems solid and sturdy, but I will need an adapter; if not, it’s going back.

The battery charger does not plug into North American wall receptacles, therefore, cannot charge the batteries and cannot use the tools.
