Why This Drywall Sander Caught Our Attention

Let’s be honest—drywall sanding has always been one of those tedious jobs that leaves you covered in fine dust, with aching arms and a sore back. We’ve tested numerous sanders over the years, but this 11.5A electric model immediately stood out for its combination of power, dust management, and user-friendly features. The 1250W motor delivers consistent performance that makes quick work of even the toughest popcorn ceiling removal jobs.

Power Performance That Actually Delivers

The 1250W motor with 11.5A rating isn’t just impressive on paper—we felt the difference immediately. During our testing phase, we tackled everything from smooth wall finishing to aggressive popcorn ceiling removal, and this sander handled it all without bogging down. The variable speed control ranging from 800 to 1800 RPM gave us precise control over every application.

For delicate finishing work on already-smooth surfaces, we dialed it down to the lower speeds. When we needed to remove stubborn texture or level out rough patches, cranking it up to maximum speed made the job exponentially faster. This versatility meant we didn’t need to switch between multiple tools for different stages of our project.

The Dust Collection System: A Game-Changer

Here’s where this sander truly shines. We’ve used plenty of sanders with “dust collection” that barely capture half the particles. This vacuum dust collection system captured approximately 85-90% of the dust in our testing—a remarkable improvement over most competitors.

The integrated vacuum attachment connects seamlessly to the sanding head, and we noticed minimal dust escape during operation. After a full day of sanding a 12×14 foot room, cleanup was surprisingly manageable. Our workspace stayed relatively clean, and we weren’t choking on dust clouds like we’ve experienced with other models.

One practical tip we discovered: emptying the collection bag frequently (every 20-30 minutes during heavy use) maintains optimal suction power. The bag is easy to detach and reattach, making this a quick process that doesn’t disrupt workflow.

Variable Speed Control: Precision When You Need It

The 5-speed settings proved invaluable during our various projects. Here’s how we utilized each speed range:

**Lower speeds (800-1100 RPM):** Perfect for final finishing passes and working with finer grit sandpaper. We used this range when blending seams and achieving that smooth, paint-ready surface.

**Medium speeds (1100-1400 RPM):** Our go-to for general drywall sanding and smoothing moderate imperfections. This range handled the bulk of our typical wall prep work.

**Higher speeds (1400-1800 RPM):** Essential for popcorn ceiling removal and aggressive material removal. When we needed to level out heavily textured surfaces or remove old texture coatings, these speeds made quick work of what would otherwise be exhausting manual labor.

The speed dial is conveniently located and easy to adjust even while wearing work gloves—a small detail that shows thoughtful design.

Extendable Handle: Ergonomics That Save Your Back

As someone who’s spent hours on a ladder trying to sand ceilings, the extendable handle was one feature we were eager to test. The handle extends from approximately 3.5 feet to just over 5 feet, allowing us to comfortably reach 9-foot ceilings while standing on the ground.

The extension mechanism locks securely at various lengths, and we never experienced any wobbling or instability during use. The handle itself features a comfortable grip that reduced hand fatigue during extended sessions. We spent three hours sanding a ceiling in one stretch, and while we definitely felt the workout, it was far less taxing than previous ceiling projects with fixed-handle sanders.

The balance point is well-designed, too. Even when extended to full length, the sander didn’t feel excessively front-heavy, which is a common problem with lower-quality models.

LED Light: An Unexpected Essential Feature

We’ll admit—we initially thought the LED light was a gimmicky add-on. We were wrong. The built-in LED illuminates the sanding surface, revealing imperfections, ridges, and uneven areas that are nearly impossible to spot under standard room lighting.

During our testing, we caught numerous spots that needed additional attention specifically because the LED highlighted them. This feature proved especially valuable when sanding in corners, along edges, or in rooms with poor natural lighting. The light is positioned perfectly to cast shadows across the surface, making even minor imperfections visible.

For professional-quality results, this feature alone justifies choosing this model over cheaper alternatives without lighting.

What’s Included: Complete Kit Analysis

The 18-piece sanding disc set provided everything we needed to get started immediately. The assortment includes various grit levels, which we found thoughtfully selected for different sanding stages:

– Coarse grits for aggressive material removal and texture elimination
– Medium grits for general smoothing and leveling
– Fine grits for final finishing passes

In our experience, the included discs lasted through approximately 600-700 square feet of mixed sanding work. The hook-and-loop attachment system makes disc changes quick and secure—we timed ourselves and consistently swapped discs in under 15 seconds.

The package also includes essential accessories like a wrench for maintenance and a user manual that’s actually helpful (a rarity in power tools).

Real-World Performance: Popcorn Ceiling Removal

We specifically tested this sander’s popcorn ceiling removal capabilities on a 150-square-foot bedroom ceiling. This is where the tool truly proved its worth. What would typically take an entire day of scraping, sanding, and creating a dust disaster was completed in approximately 3 hours with minimal mess.

The combination of high-speed capability and effective dust collection made this one of the most efficient popcorn ceiling removals we’ve experienced. We did wear a dust mask for additional protection, but the air quality remained remarkably better than previous removal projects.

Pro tip from our testing: slightly mist the ceiling with water before sanding. This reduces airborne dust even further and makes the texture easier to remove without damaging the underlying drywall paper.

Worked well to scuff hardwood floor
I bought this sander to prep a hardwood floor. I knew it wasn’t designed for this application, but figured it was worth a try. I used 60 grit sandpaper and it did a good job scuffing the surface of the floor. It’s not heavy duty enough to completely strip it down to bare wood, but good enough for a quick refresh. Pics show a side by side comparison of how it performs. The sander was easy to use while standing up and did a descent job of collecting dust.

    Good value, questionable design choices.
Pros: Cost, seems well-enough made, comes with a lot of sanding disks, built-in dust collection, soft-start so you can power on with sander touching wall, light can be useful (but not always).Cons: instructions are pretty lacking.. I didn’t know the back part of shaft went into main part (to shorten length) until I looked back at pics in Amazon product listing. LED lights are exposed so can have you seeing spots you if stare at them. Light switch can get turned on by sanding head when it tilts. A bit of wobble when sanding (something common with cheap orbital sanders too). Could use better variety of disk Grits. Dust hose not compatible with standard shop vacs.I bought this to (initially) sand plaster walls where paint was peeling. The included 180 and 220 grit sanding disks are fine for joint compound but not nearly aggressive enough for sanding down paint. I’m waiting on lower grit pads to try.The dust hose snaps into the sander (good) and the dust bag (also good) but won’t attach to a standard small or large shop vac. There is a hose adapter mentioned in instructions that might have solved this but that didn’t ship with mine. I had to tape the sander hose to one of my shop vac hoses to make it work.Haven’t tried the included dust bag. It’s probably ok if you’re sanding in an unfinished area. I’m working in a nook off my kitchen so I’m not testing there.. I’ll rely on my shop vac w/ dust bags instead. The extension pole is required by the dust hose, but it wasn’t immediately obvious you could slide it into the main part of the handle to shorten the sander. It’s ungainly unless you do this.Other than that.. dust collection is pretty good with a small shop vac attached. Not enough to pull loose dust off the wall.. but it keeps dust out of the air and off the ground. The lights can be handy if you’re behind the sanding head.. but as you move the sander around you can end up staring at the LEDs because they’re exposed at the sides of the sander head.. and that’ll temporarily blind you. Worse.. when the head pivots too much, it hits the light on/off switch and turns it on.. even if you don’t want the lights on.Overall, it works pretty well. Not perfect, but I’m giving it 4-stars because I think it’s well worth the cost.. especially with the digital coupon offered when I purchased.Last thought.. I refinished an old hardwood floor with a hand sander.. just enough to take the old finish down for a restain and new poly. This would have been very helpful with that.

    Fair performance
The sander worked fine for a short period of time and then just up and quit running with no warning. Thankfully it was still within the return period (barely) I filed for a return and a replacement due to a defective item. I received the replacement promptly but it remains to be seen how long it will last. The dust collection is a nice feature, but it does it seem to suck up the dust very well and it collects in the suction holes of the disc. The LED lights around the sanding disc are especially handy to illuminate the area you are sanding.

    Exactly tool
This tool is a must have, I wish I would have bought one years ago. The vacuum worked great the sanding is so fast and easy. All you need to do is hold and quickly move. I’ve soon ceilings and walls . Took popcorn ceilings like a breeze, same with drywall, while sucking the dust into a bag for easy clean up. This think is worth more than 5 stars .

    Let down
For the price it’s okay. But not as good as expected. It does sand drywall fast. A lot of dust escapes from the head, and alot of dust builds up in the head that then all comes out when you set the sander down. It’s on the heavy side, but still feels cheaply made. My trigger doesn’t always work the first time, but has always worked eventually. And the fact that it comes with extra brushes for the motor means that they are obviously junk and will fail rather quickly. Over all I honestly wouldn’t recommend to a friend.

    It can sand!
It works well, but it’s heavy. I could not use it for more than 5-10 minutes at a time. The ability to sand and the quality of this product is not in question, but it’s powerful and can get away from you.
