M18 18-volt lithium-ion cordless 3-1/4 in. planer

sup everybody Phillip Bridges here and
today we are talking about the Milwaukee m18 planner pick this up the other day
haven't opened it yet we're gonna open it and see what's inside and we're gonna
go over some stuff and then maybe try it out so I guess we can take the knife in
a cutter that's a huge spider holy crap I need to do something about that later
okay so when you open the box pull it out gonna be a bunch of cardboard crap
get rid of it now when we open this up you're gonna
get the instruction manual you're going to get a guide doing a angled plane then
you're gonna get the planer itself who needs instructions but okay so this is
the Milwaukee m18 planer now the one thing that I
noticed right away is that it has to dust ports a right and a left and what
size a hole is that let's give it a measure inch and a half
so you can get an adapter or you can do an inch and a half hose out of it to
hook up to a vacuum system so this planer this planer is about
let's seal it what is it it's about it's about twelve inches long and then we got
let's see how wide it is it's about about six and a quarter wide six and a
quarter inches and the height on it is probably it's gonna be you know it's
almost seven inches so the weight of this is 6.1 pounds now
that's a little bit lighter than the makita the Makita cordless planer is
about it that's seven point four pounds it's almost it's actually a pound
lighter and then the DeWalt did the wallet weighs about six point seven
pounds so this this is pretty light compared to your other cordless models
now this will do a three and a quarter plane and then this has Milwaukee's
brushless system in it so the RPMs on this thing it'll run full-out at about
fourteen thousand rpms now you can't really control the RPMs on
this you there's not really a range on as on basically so you know that's you
know basically when you're planing anyways you you want to have maximum
power anyways to plane whatever you're planing and now if anybody doesn't know
what planing is plane planing is when you take a piece of board that you think
is flat but it's not really flat it has like a cup in it or you'll run the
planer across and you'll plane down the board so that you'll take you'll get the
board level and you'll basically do this with doors too you'll see doors that
over time like when you go to close them the you know the humidity and everything
is settled in a house and the door jamb really isn't square and nothing's lining
up and so when the door the door is up a door all the way so you take the door
off and you use this planer and you run it along the side of the door and you'll
take down a couple sixty fourths of an inch and you'll get everything squared
up now this has I noticed that it has a nice little lock 20 I think it looks
like it's about 20 20 little clicks you know for the
positioning levels that's really cool that goes it goes from zero all the way
up to five sixty fourths of an inch so you can you can cut five sixty fourths
of an inch off would in a single pass that's really nice doesn't seem like it
lets you go pet that's it doesn't let you go past zero so when you get it down
to zero you you can't go any further so that's kind of nice that it won't
basically overshoot and it does the same thing when you get to five sixty-four so
you can you can't go any higher than that so you're not going to mess up the
planer so now another thing I've noticed is that it has a little kickstand here
so wonder what how that really pops out okay cool that's how that works
okay so on the bottom of this is a little kickstand and right now it's
recessed in well if you just move it over to the bring it over to Center it
pops out and there's a little pin that keeps it from popping out and so this
kickstand pops out once you are done using it and it basically keeps the
blade from making contact with the your surface and then once you are ready to
plane again you basically start planning and then this spring-loaded kickstand
will recess back down once you make a pass over your piece of wood or whatever
you are planing now this has a beveled edge guide so we can we can put this on
and then you can really get the angle you want to know go up to 45 degrees for
your angle and another thing that I've noticed is that there is a jig if you
will and that little jig is for shiplap you can make your own little ship
shiplap boards and whatnot it's so you'll just run that
along the side of the board and it will cut down and make your angle for your
ship lapwood so let's get a battery you can use any Milwaukee 18 battery any
Milwaukee battery that it'll take it I'm gonna use the 12 point oh it's just how
I roll because I have it laying around so there right now can't do anything
there is a safety button on the trigger right above it you're gonna hold it down and that's what it is
I like how fast this motor stops I know my Dewalt a coordinate plane err it
doesn't stop as fast and you know I have taken chunks out of wood because I don't
think my the Walt has the little kickstand on it now there is a allen
that you get with this and this on the side a little convenient storage spot
and that is for the blades now you could take these blades off and this is a dual
blade so what that means is if you are using the planer and you feel that the
blade is dull or you know you're not you're not getting the cut that you want
or the the cut that you want that the planer is giving you can instead of just
taking it off and trying to sharpen the blade put it back on or getting a new
blade you can take the blade off flip it around and there's also there's a blade
on the other side so that's why you know Milwaukee does to do a blade system
which is I really like so you just take the used to Allen and you take the three
bolts off and you will flip-flop the blade and then put it back on
I've really wanted a I really wanted a cordless planer I'm getting tired of
cords you know I'm switching everything over to cordless systems I I'm you know
I got air nailers I got saws I got everything drills
you know I'm jobsite you're not using a planer as much and it's you don't want
that's just another cord that you have to bring out and you got to try to find
power for and usually you're only planning down a couple couple doors here
or there or you're planning a couple pieces of wood and you just want to get
it done you want to get done you know worth you don't want to haul in your
planer and you have your cord and you're trying to find another outlet spot
wherever it is and then you got to make sure that the outlet is closed and if
not then you got to get an extension cord and you got it's a lot of dicking
around that you don't want to deal with you come in put a battery in set your
gauge and you go about your business and you do your job that's great thing that
I like about this it's fast I really like how you can use the dust port it's
a simple thing but I like it you can flip-flop which side you want your duck
sport on because then you're not shooting all the wood shavings onto the
surface that you're working on and you know it's the little things like that
that Milwaukee thinks of in it I like it all right so I'm Philip bridges if you
