Saddle T-Squares: A Comprehensive Review

Introduction

If you’re a professional woodworker, fine woodworker or cabinet maker looking for a high-quality tool to enhance the efficiency and precision of your work, Woodpeckers’ saddle T-squares may be the perfect addition to your collection. These T-squares are extremely popular and after a successful first run, they are back by popular demand. In this article, we’ll closely examine the features, sizes, and uses for saddle T-squares, as well as discuss their cost and applications in the workshop.

Different Sizes and Choices

Woodpeckers saddle T-squares come in four different sizes: 4, 6, 8, and 12-inch models. This range of sizes means that these T-squares can cater to a wide variety of projects and requirements. They can be purchased separately or as a deluxe kit which includes all four sizes in a hard case with foam cutouts. The case is especially useful when transporting the tools to a job site.

Specifications and Features

Woodpeckers saddle T-squares boast a sturdy and hefty design, made from aircraft-grade aluminum with an anodized red finish. The laser engraving provides an attractive contrast and ensures durability. The saddle is generously weighted, allowing for a stable and precise 90-degree mark along both edges of the ruler. A beveled edge allows the scale to sit closer to the material, reducing the margin for error when transferring measurements.

Available in both metric and imperial, users have the option to choose between a metric scale or an inch scale, depending on their preference. Each ruler is also equipped with precision holes that are strategically placed at an angle in 1/16-inch increments. These holes accommodate a 0.9mm lead, which can be easily sourced from an arts and crafts store or an online marketplace.

The diagonal pattern of the holes ensures that they don’t touch one another, making for a more durable and reliable marking tool. These holes allow for perfectly parallel lines to be drawn along the edge of the material, providing remarkable accuracy and consistency.

Uses and Applications

Given that Woodpeckers saddle T-squares are designed to register against the edge of a piece of material, they are best suited for tasks requiring measurements and layout work along the edge of the material. Whether you’re undertaking design work, creating joinery layouts, or marking out measurements, these T-squares are both accurate and versatile.

For example, if you need to measure 4 inches on two separate materials, using the precision holes ensures that the two marks will be consistent and accurate. Although they are primarily designed for edge work, Woodpecker saddle T-squares can also be used on larger, central pieces of material by switching to a more suitable tool for such applications.

Replacements for Traditional Combination Squares

After using Woodpecker saddle T-squares for about a week, they have proven to be an excellent replacement for the traditional 6-inch combination square. The 4-inch and 6-inch models are easy to use and can be effortlessly pulled from an apron or tool belt during any project. The convenience, accuracy, and reliability of these T-squares make them an indispensable asset to any workshop.

Cost and Quality

As expected from Woodpeckers, these saddle T-squares come with a hefty price tag, reflecting their high quality and precision. It’s important to note that these tools are specifically designed for professionals and are, therefore, not intended or recommended for amateur craftsmen who work with low-quality material. That said, if you’re a professional in need of a high-quality measuring tool, these saddle T-squares are a worthy investment and a lifetime purchase.

Conclusion

In summary, Woodpeckers saddle T-squares boast an impressive range of features and an unparalleled level of precision and accuracy. Their durable, high-quality design ensures they will last a lifetime, making them an excellent investment for professionals in the woodworking industry. 2. Thanks for the video ——— quick question——— what is that tool belt vest combo thing? Is that one piece or two pieces? I’d like something like that.

  3. Awesome tool but I'm just a weekend warrior.  Nevertheless it's a cool set.  Thanks!  #Workshopaddict

  4. also…..point 9mm lead pencil…. woodworking?  a sharp #2 is a regular chore,  9mm lead,  I'll be loading the pencil every day…. and I enjoy and love fine woodwork but this is machinist grade spec work,  they had a great idea but they over-thought it and made it impractical.

  5. just checked,…6 inch saddle square, 80 bucks, shipped march 2018,  not realistic,  collecting cash for an production run?,  these are not that difficult

  6. While Brian seems unbiased…this part of WSA seems bought and paid for….completely in bed with the companies on this video….talk about the whole experience when buying these products instead of misleading the viewers…

  7. Do you have any videos about that panel clamp system in the background?

  8. I really wish they would STOP calling these One Time Tools ….. Many of their "One Time Tools" have had several runs. I think they should call them "Once In A While" Tools

  9. Thanks for the review. I have two questions. First, is Woodpeckers a sponsor of this channel? Also, who else works in your shop with you? You say "we" a lot but it always looks like you're alone.
