Dewalt’s latest miter saw, the DCS 781 Flex volt 12-inch miter saw, is more than just an upgrade from the older Flex volt model. It has become the top tier of what miter saws should be. The saw boasts an impressive dust collection system, which was put to the test with 300 cuts, and barely any sawdust fell on the user.

The power of the machine is spot on; it can handle anything that is thrown its way, and users don’t need multiple batteries to keep it going. However, the accuracy of the detents is also important. It was first tested at 45 degrees, and there was some wobbling, but the zero detent was spot on. With wood, tested with two lines drawn using a Square, both cutting the wood with the same edge, the measured angle was 90 degrees.

The saw is spot on at 15 degrees, with the measured angle being 75.1. At 22.5 degrees, it was measured at 67.5. At 31.6, it was measured at 58.4, and at 45 degrees, it was just a touch too big, so adjusting the bevel angle was necessary.

When a 90-degree cut was made to check the saw’s accuracy, the board is not perfectly straight. Still, the saw was measured to be accurate at 90 degrees and 90.1 degrees. Dewalt has taken into account that all walls are not perfect and adjusted their saws accordingly. The bevels, however, are adjustable, which is good news.

The only unknown variable is the effect of sawdust in the machine; it is unknown the long-term effect it might have on the saw. However, as of now, the machine is working accurately, handling everything thrown at it.

Overall, the Dewalt DCS 781 Flex volt 12-inch miter saw is a top-tier, accurate, and powerful saw. The minor issues that exist are minor and easily adjustable. In summary, the machine is production quality good and has proven to be reliable.

  1. DeWalt did not equip this unit with a 120VAC plug-in option/feature JUST LIKE THE PREVIOUS DHS790 had. They are GREEDY & want to force customers to buy MORE batteries!! I'll be skipping this model. They could at least make a 120V AC to 60v FlexVolt battery adapter, but again, that would cost them battery sales…

  2. Accuracy is legit with this saw. DeWalt is on point with these miters.

  3. My question is what do y’all think of the position of the table extensions on each side of the saw? I’ve been looking into getting a set.

  4. looks like the motor design is very similar to their 7 inch grinder

  5. Does it have a depth stop for trenching?

  6. Maybe check bevel accuracy on a 2x instead of a 1x? Or even bevel the long dimension of a 2×4?

  7. Dewalt saws are top notch! For the 45 degree bevel test, I use 2 pieces of perfect width 3-4” flat stock upright against the fence. Cut both pieces, put the mitres together and test the corner for 90 then divide by 2 if you’re using a digital angle finder. Way easier to measure that angle than the way you were doing it. Also I’m a cabinet installer so the cabinets I trim around are way more exact than a drywalled corner. I want my saw to be tuned as accurate as possible. Have fun, I wish I could justify replacing my perfectly fine corded version with this.

  8. Wait. Does it not cut 12s on 45?

  9. It's a DeWalt. Of course it's accurate enough. Better than most saws. Festool isn't even better

  10. Dear DeWalt,
WHEN are you going to release a cordless Siding/Fencing Nailer?!?

  11. so I went out and grabbed me a new dewalt miter saw after I saw two of your reviews….definitely improvements are there but one thing…dust collection you were raving about. ..was absolutely NOT there…..very disappointed 😒

  12. AWESOME SAW …….. 👍🖖

  13. Cool saw. I have the Old flexvolt miter saw and i love it. The AC adaptor is sucha game changer. If this saw ever gets the adaptor to make it wired then id buy it.

  14. By the way, I have been subscribed to your channel for many years, but when I looked just now it showed me as unsubscribed. Just thought you'd want to know.

  15. Crazy impressive! I'm curious how the dust collection on this compares to the Festool?

  16. 10:51 the smaller the blade the more likely you get perfect bevels

  17. Thanks for all the dedicated accuracy testing.

  18. It just seems like Mitre saw is one of those tools best to have as a corded version 🤷‍♀️

  19. Hey it’s your second video on this saw! Lol that’s how I am when I like something I can’t stop talking about how much I like it😀

  20. Good follow up to your last video on the 781. Yours was opposite of mine. The bevel settings on my 781 were perfect out of the box but my miter settings were off by half a degree

  21. So going to buy 780 OG or this new 781 Sexy flexy what 1 would you recommend buy once cry once upgrading from Chicago electric double-bevel

  22. What you termed as "Blade wobble" is from the blade and motor torquing while it's getting up to speed.
    It's impossible to change physics.
The more swivel points, the more wear points. Wear points wear. Nylon bushings wear faster than Bronze. At what price is this no longer deemed affordable for most people?
It's like wanting the versatility of an F-250 with V8, and then complaining about its gas mileage.

  23. I would say good enough for me you rarely encounter perfect angles anyway

  24. Tu sais vraiment bien tester un outils ses super quand ils arrivent déja ajuster.
