Introduction
In today’s world, the term “professional tools” seems to be thrown around without any real meaning. It’s become a way for some companies, especially those in other countries, to deceive customers and sell them subpar products under the guise of quality. The result is a marketplace filled with cheap and low-quality tools that don’t live up to their promises. This article dives into the experience of buying and using the “professional” tools from the Garden Joy brand, sold on Amazon by Five Star Tools, and the drawbacks and issues encountered.
Garden Joy Tools: A Chance Encounter
A contractor’s journey into the world of cheap tools began with his love for Amazon and DeWalt tools. When a friend introduced him to the Wish platform, his quest to find even cheaper alternatives took an unfortunate turn. Garden Joy’s tools caught his eye, and he decided to give them a shot, despite their too-good-to-be-true prices.
Arrival and Initial Impressions
The first two tools the contractor ordered were a drill and an impact wrench, both from Garden Joy. The tools arrived with batteries, which appeared to be of questionable quality due to mismatched voltages and compatibility issues. Even before usage, it was clear that these tools didn’t meet the standards of other reputable brands.
Quality and Performance Concerns
Upon closer inspection, the drill felt cheap in the hand, revealing that it was a brushed tool prone to sparking. The slow speeds of the drill on both high and low settings were concerning, as it didn’t give much confidence for its ability to handle heavy-duty tasks. As for the impact wrench, the included bit set and socket arrangement seemed like an odd combination, and it emitted a strange noise when triggered.
Putting Garden Joy Tools to the Test
In a series of tests, the drill and impact wrench were pushed to their limits, revealing their weaknesses and flaws. The drill struggled with increasing drill bit sizes, eventually producing so much heat and smoke that it became unusable. The impact wrench, on the other hand, failed without even being put to use, with its brushless motor failing after a few short test triggers.
A Disappointing Outcome and a Lesson Learned
It’s clear that Garden Joy’s tools, and others like them, are not suitable for professional use or even for serious DIY enthusiasts. Their poor performance, lack of durability, and highly questionable safety make them a poor choice for anyone in search of reliable and effective tools.
The Danger of False Advertising
The fact that companies like Garden Joy are allowed to sell and promote their tools as “professional” is a disservice to customers who trust those claims. Buyers who may be unaware of the differences between truly professional tools and cheap imitations are at risk of wasting their money and putting themselves in danger when using these inferior products.
Final Thoughts
The experience with Garden Joy’s tools serves as a valuable lesson on the importance of doing proper research before purchasing tools. Investing in high-quality, reputable brands, while more expensive upfront, can save time, money, and frustration in the long run. The deceptive practices of some companies looking to sell cheap, low-quality products under the guise of “professional tools” shouldn’t deter consumers from seeking genuinely reliable options.
Ultimately, it comes down to consumers’ diligence in considering their needs, researching the best options, and not falling for too-good-to-be-true deals. This incident demonstrates that, when it comes to tools, it’s better to stick to trusted brands that stand behind their products rather than gamble on the unknown.

Ain’t no Joy in this Garden.
The impact wrench is a Makita knock off. I have the same model knock off just with a different no name brand slapped on. I have a Makita 18 volt drill and driver set. The batteries that came with my Makita set fit the knock off impact perfectly. So you can use Makita batteries with the knock offs.
WOW! lol. I actually have the garden joy impact. I just bought it because my old corded Chicago tools impact was getting tired after 12 years of use, and I just wanted something cheap to pull lug nuts off my cars. I double checked the torque after the first time I used it, and it barely made 70 ft/lbs. The second time I used it, it made just about 100 ft/lbs. Thankfully, I torque my wheels down after I use an impact. It's too incosistent , but it turns bolts. I just use it for light work. My kobalt impact bit driver has done better, overall. lol.
that tool appears as a toy in your hand
By the way have you heard of toolpro brushless drills
I have a DeWalt 887 an it smoked on a flexvolt battery
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR DONE
release the trigger when a tool jams
This is a big issue for me, because I think it's important. I wish you did more of these videos exposing the overseas junk we're importing, but if you did, youtube would probably give you a strike for 'hateful' content. It has gotten this bad.
This is the china garbage that gets 4.5 [fake] stars on Amazon and Harbor Freight.
I always subtract 1.5 stars from Amazon ratings, and I subtract 2 stars from the HF ratings to get the "true" ratings.
If yah want a cheap drill or impact driver check out the kobalt xtr line not quit professional grade but probably the best DIY line out there for the price.
What is the point in destroying that drill? It clearly isn't up to the load you put it through. I seriously doubt any tool you stall and keep your finger on the trigger will survive.
In Soviet China, profession wins tool you!
Wow he paid $80 for that junk impact wrench, I looked it up
That's crazy the impact wrench was trying to turn on by itself. That's a circuit board or wiring issue. Cheap made junk
Damn….three for three today counting that Ryobi reciprocating saw. More smoke than a crack house for sure.
My milwaukee 12v non-fuel drill has more power than that thing
Very good
😄😄😄
Great vid. May I suggest some bullshit Video titles to help attract more viewers the way others do? 😜
I have to say this was funny to watch 🤣. Cheap is expensive ! Now you have to go buy the quality stuff. How much did you save lol. Can't imagine people even thinking of buying this stuff
I just clicked on the links – these tools are not that inexpensive ($97 and $44). Lots better options for the same prices…
The yellow one burned up on impact
He should buy hart tools at Walmart at least
Why do you dare to continue using it after seeing smoke? Is it a funny video that you used up in advance and then deliberately made?
This looks like a bunch of tools on aliexpress for 20-30 dollars. It also looks like a powered by shopify site.
cheap tools are great when you find the right brand.
Default is overpriced.
Why would you keep running a brand that people will go out of their way to steal from you?
lmao t that impact wrench life. I've seen a few vids on the counterfeit Makita impact wrench and it was pretty tough for 30 bucks but this thing was a joke.
Lmao. Makita is built in china
I don't know about anyone else but in ANY country on this planet 🌍 I call BS on those tools
Oh that sound is normal with those cheap brushless tools I wanted to get a impact and I got a blue one similar too that makes that same noise but it only makes like 150 ft lbs I run mine with milwaukee batteries it does good with a 8 amp high out put makes like 175 ft lbs with it
That impact gave up the ghost so damn fast
Look like kiddie toys.
Edit – work even worse than they looked. Crazy
Most hilariously stupid video this side of the cultural revolution. Who do you think you are? American quality? US Made? Yes, ur products can be innovative and to certain degree OK, but the shit you are able to produce over there has for centuries been associated with junk. Quality junk. I drive Jeep myself, I have my share of 110V tools, and I come from a country with no reputation for quality product for the consumer segment (the professional/industrial segments, yes), but if I want quality tools and cars I buy Japanese/Korean or German/Swedish. Period.
They’re target consumer is professional “life hack” channels 😂
I know dare I say it but black and decker does better than that! That stuff makes Ryobi look like the bees knees!
nice video
This is awesome! What total crap.
"Take your shit and don't bring it here anymore". I'm giving this an enthusiastic +1. Some stuff you can't avoid where it's manufactured, but when I can, and I do, I gladly pay double for domestic USA made tools.
Whoever is buying tools off WISH shouldn't be handling any tools. Or any Chinese company. Milwaukee and Ryobi etc all owned by massive Chinese Tech company. All they do is copy other tool brands and you people eat it up. They mass promote all over the store. Americans should seriously start looking for alternatives to Chinese brands.
It's called Stockholm syndrome
One more way to support the Chinese
lmao! that orange one committed suicide.
Most real professional tools, Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, etc. have production lines in China. It's not the country that makes junk tools, it's the junk company makes junk tools.
You tell em Brian!!! If they ain’t trying to kill us with a friggin Virus,’ they taking our money with this cheap arse crap! But as I always say, Caveat Emptor, Buyer beware. Be smart people, and spend your money carefully! And I ain’t apologizing for calling them out on the Virus, nor am I making it a Political thing. Anyone with half a brain, knows it came out of the lab, lest you living in a fantasy world. I’m not gonna apologize for serving my Country in the Military, nor being proud of this great land! * gets off soap box*. Forgive me Brian. Let me know if you don’t like, and I will delete the comment. No worries. I share your sentiments! Rock on ! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😁✌🏻🇺🇸
that was a fun video to watch but I wasn't disappointed with the drill especially after checking out its website, they aren't claiming crazy numbers with it save for the battery voltage nonsense. Now granted the average customer isn't going to know the difference between 230 in lbs versus the pro level of 1200 inch pounds but it wasn't a terrible drill and they didn't advertise it using big spade bits. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone but it wasn't a big fat lie either. Quite frankly it's comparable to the Harbor Freight Warrior brand which isn't a compliment to either brand haha
The impact wrench was a total fail however.
In the end this video shows that you can't trust the no name Amazon stuff. It might be good but probably not. Amazon really needs to crack down on their shady stuff because it's hurting their brand reputation. I don't trust any reviews there or any products exclusive to Amazon
That impact wrench saw what happened to the drill and tapped out before the fun began.
Actually most of Dewalt or Milwaukee power tools are made in China as well. So it's never wrong to stick with a good brand. It's not worth the little price difference between a garbage brand and a well-known brand.
A lot of actual professional tool brands are made in China also.. but that stuff is just victimizes uneducated consumers … get educated folks…🤷♂️
These make Ryobi look amazing….
Honestly do not spend money on crap like this…burn your damn garage down…the technology is ancient…
