What Makes These Mouse Sanding Pads Stand Out
During our testing phase, we discovered that having ten different grit options in one package is genuinely game-changing. The AUSTOR set includes 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 180, 240, 320, 400, and 800 grit sandpapers—covering everything from heavy material removal to ultra-fine finishing work. We found ourselves reaching for different grits throughout various stages of our projects, and having them all readily available saved us countless trips to the hardware store.
The hook and loop attachment system proved to be one of our favorite features. We tested the attachment strength repeatedly, swapping pads dozens of times across different projects, and each pad held firmly without premature wear on the backing material.
Our Hands-On Testing Experience
We put these sanding pads to work on several challenging projects to truly evaluate their performance. From stripping old paint off furniture to smoothing rough wooden surfaces and even refinishing metal tools, these pads handled every task we threw at them.
Performance Across Different Materials
On wood surfaces, the progression from 40-grit for initial stock removal through to 800-grit for glass-smooth finishes worked flawlessly. We particularly appreciated how the coarser grits (40-80) aggressively removed material without clogging too quickly, even when working with softwoods that tend to gum up sandpaper.
The medium grits (100-180) delivered exactly what we needed for general smoothing and preparing surfaces for finishing. These were the workhorses we found ourselves using most frequently during our testing period.
For final finishing, the fine grits (240-800) produced remarkably smooth surfaces. The 800-grit pads created a satin-like finish on hardwoods that honestly exceeded our expectations for detail sander sandpaper at this price point.

Key Features That Impressed Us
Universal Compatibility
One concern we had initially was whether these pads would fit our various detail sanders. We tested them on Black & Decker, Porter-Cable, and Ryobi mouse sanders, and they fit each one perfectly. The standard mouse pad shape with 11 pre-punched dust extraction holes aligned properly with every sander we tried.
Durability and Longevity
Throughout our testing, we monitored how long each grit level lasted under typical working conditions. The backing material proved surprisingly durable—we experienced minimal tearing even when sanding edges and corners where stress concentration is highest. The abrasive grains remained well-bonded to the backing throughout the useful life of each pad.
For reference, a single 120-grit pad lasted us through completely smoothing a small side table (approximately 4 square feet of surface area) before showing significant wear.
Hook and Loop Reliability
The Velcro-style hook and loop system maintained strong adhesion even after multiple removals and reattachments. We intentionally swapped pads frequently during testing to simulate real-world usage patterns, and the backing held up admirably. Even after 15-20 attachment cycles, the pads still gripped securely without slipping during operation.
Ready to Upgrade Your Sanding Arsenal?
Based on our comprehensive testing, this 50-piece set delivers exceptional value for both hobbyists and professionals. The variety of grits means you’ll always have the right abrasive for any stage of your project.
What We Discovered About Practical Applications
Furniture Refinishing
We completely refinished an antique dresser using primarily these sanding pads. Starting with 60-grit to remove the old finish, progressing through 120 and 180 for smoothing, and finishing with 320-grit before staining—the results were professional-quality. The detail sander’s triangular shape allowed us to reach into corners and crevices that would have been difficult with a standard orbital sander.
Drywall and Spackling Work
The fine-grit pads (240-400) performed excellently for smoothing spackle and joint compound. We found the 240-grit particularly effective for feathering edges without creating visible scratches in the finished wall surface.
Automotive and Metal Work
On metal surfaces, these pads proved their versatility. We used them for removing rust from old tools and smoothing welding seams. The 80-grit handled rust removal efficiently, while the 400 and 800-grit options polished metal to a near-mirror finish.
Understanding the Grit Progression
For those newer to sanding projects, understanding when to use each grit is crucial. Here’s what we learned through our testing:
**Coarse Grits (40-80):** These are your heavy removers. We used these for stripping finishes, removing deep scratches, and aggressive stock removal. They work fast but leave visible scratches that need to be removed with finer grits.
**Medium Grits (100-180):** The all-purpose workhorses. Perfect for general smoothing, removing scratches left by coarse grits, and preparing surfaces for finishing. We found ourselves using 120-grit most frequently.
**Fine Grits (240-400):** For final surface preparation before applying finishes. These create smooth surfaces with minimal visible scratches. The 320-grit became our go-to for pre-stain sanding.
**Extra Fine (800):** This is for ultra-smooth finishing, polishing between finish coats, or achieving glass-like surfaces on hardwoods. We were genuinely surprised by how refined a surface this grit could produce.

Great Value – Did not fit mouse perfectly
Great, great value for the price (5/pack one grit = $5-6 at Home Depot). However, these were about 1.5 inches shy of actually fitting the sanding mouse. I made due by cutting pieces off of new pads to fill the gap, and laughed at myself about the “franken-sander,” I was creating. Overall, worked well for the 5 hours of sanding done on a large pallet tv-stand project. Worth rigging together if for the price!

A great product at a fantastic price.
We have had a Black and Decker Mouse Sander for years. We use it very rarely because we have very few woodworking projects. Most of the time we need to buy sandpaper for the mouse we just head up to Walmart and buy a pack of five or so assorted sheets.By buying it that way one is very limited to what one can sand because a sheet may or may not last long enough to finish the task.We decided to buy the sanding sheets through Amazon and we were well pleased. There are fifty individual sheets in a variety of grits. Enough to take on multiple tasks. We figured that since we got such a great price that the paper would not hold up very long. But, it did. We sanded down a cedar mailbox post and you can hardly tell the sheet was used. We actually stopped the video less than halfway through the sanding because it is pretty boring watching someone sand wood for very long.We were impressed and we give the sandpaper, and the seller all five stars. It arrived as promised and is better than what was expected.

Love these. I just got a new sander and …
Love these. I just got a new sander and have been doing a lot of painting around the house. Painting oak doors to white and I really needed some good sanding. This pack comes with all sorts of grains. I’ve a lot of nicks and scrapes on the door, then sanded, then painted – they come out great. Sanding is the key! I’ve done a lot of walls and have sanded in between coats (like they tell you to) and the hand held sander with all these options really makes the surface ready for the paint!HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Very resourceful little sanding pads.
Very stout pads. They hold up very well for long periods of use. Some of the old paint has gummed up in the pads and whatever they used in making these makes it very easy to remove that “gum” and continue using them.

Long lasting and great product for the price
I have tried to find these in stores and they are just not as good as these.

Cheap alternative with good quality but with the expected off brand issues
Very cheap but good quality in terms of actual sandpaper. However they are too large for a Black & Decker mouse sander. The air holes don’t line up & have about 1/4 inch excess around the whole piece. Excellent sanding quality though so depending on your set up, may not be an issue

Ces feuilles abrasives à 5 trous s’adaptent assez bien sur ma ponceuse triangulaire Tepco. Les trous ne tombent pas tous bien en face de ceux de la ponceuse, mais l’aspiration reste très correcte.

These are great sanding pads for Black+Decker Mouse sander (older version). They are a little bigger than the base, but I just put it near one of the corners so that I can get the detail sanding done. They are as durable as any other sandpaper out there and come in a good selection!
